Vienna EUDC Tie Break Policy

Where two or more teams are tied on team points and speaker points but both or all of these teams will break, the order in which the teams will be deemed to break will be decided by which team has the highest number of wins.

If the teams are equal after this, the team with the highest number of seconds will be ranked higher. If this does not separate the teams, they will be separated by a coin toss or a straw pull where more than two teams (with the longest straw deemed to rank highest).

Where there is a tie (on team and speaker points) which will result in only one or some of these teams breaking, the rules will be as follows: Where there are two teams tied it will be determined by which team has the most firsts. If this does not resolve the tie, the team with the most seconds will break.

Where the teams are still tied this will be resolved by a debate off between the two teams, with the winner being deemed to break.

If three teams are tied (and cannot be separated by number of wins or seconds) the breaking team or teams will be decided by a straw pull with the team choosing the longest straw(s) to be ranked higher.

If four teams are tied (and cannot be separated by firsts or seconds) then the breaking team or teams (as required) and their ranking will be decided by a debate off.

If more than four teams are tied (and cannot be separated by wins or seconds) a straw pull will determine the teams progressing with the longest straw or straws drawn professing higher.
