Andreas Villarreal

Andreas studies Political Science and International Development at the University of Vienna. He likes to read a lot – like, really, A LOT. His favorite authors include Kazuo Ishiguro, Albert Camus and George R.R. Martin. Furthermore, he loves geeky TV shows like House of Cards, Person of Interest, Mad Men, Battlestar Galactica and Agents of SHIELD. He speaks fluent German, English and French and also has a good knowledge of Dutch and Spanish.

Andreas started debating 3 years ago and quickly became a fundamental part of DKWien. He was the Co-Convener of Vienna Freshers’ 2014 and also attended EUDC Zagreb 2014 and the German Speaking Championship in 2014, where he even broke to the Finals in GSL (German as a Second Language) and won the title in that category. Originally, Andreas started debating to sharpen his mind and structure his thoughts, so he could better express the ideas and constructs that linger in his mind.

Andreas joined Vienna EUDC to give back. He always enjoys the thrill of a good tournament and wants people to experience the same in Vienna. Therefore, it is his deep wish to create an environment of open communication and respect so everyone can experience the tournament to the fullest. When asked what would make the perfect EUDC, he answers with: “If even the people in the bin rooms go home saying: ‘That was freaking awesome! I met new friends, had a lot of fun and a lot of good memories!’,  then EUDC was a real success.”

Fun Fact: Andreas is one of the co-founders of the world-famous DKW Tumblr (go check it out, it is awesome).
