Kathi Stangl’s favourite colour is green. So was that the reason for her to choose Ireland for her Erasmus semester abroad, or was it the thriving debating community? What can be said for certain is that her curiosity for debating was raised on the Emerald Isle, and hence Kathi joined DKWien soon after she returned to Vienna last year in autumn. Here, she continues her studies in Business Law and International Business at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
“Family comes first!” she said. If you get to know Kathi for just half an hour, you would notice she is a cheerful, easy-going person. It is also difficult to overlook Kathi has the ideas necessary to write a fantasy or science-fiction novel. So what if she had a magic wand and with a few flicks of her wrist could do some magic for EUDC, or what if she had a crazy science lab at her disposal? She would invent a weather machine, but not one as you might think, that mad scientist’s one with burning lightning flashes and evil robots. No, she would create a high pressure weather machine to guarantee seven days of debating in bright sunshine next to the Danube for Vienna EUDC. We are with you on that, Kathi! Similarly enjoyable would be her idea of a Viennese summer ball. Imagine yourself waltzing over a dance floor in your finest garment next August!
Kathi’s approach to improve in debating is practise, practise, and more practise. After feedback, more practise! Seeing debating more generally in Austria, she hopes that one day everyone will have had the chance to debate for at least one year, so that no student with a slumbering passion for argumentation will have to forgo the wonders of debating.
